Sialkot's FIFA ball manufacturer Forward Sports partners with a top Portuguese football club to build an elite player academy in Pakistan.
Sialkot sports manufacturing powerhouse Forward Sports has joined forces with a top-tier Portuguese football club to launch an elite youth football academy in Pakistan. Backed by the official manufacturer of FIFA World Cup match balls, the partnership aims to transform Pakistan's unorganized grassroots talent into professional athletes capable of competing in top European leagues.
For decades, the industrial city of Sialkot has held a virtual monopoly on global football manufacturing. Forward Sports, founded by Khawaja Masood Akhtar, produced the iconic Brazuca for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the Telstar 18 for Russia, and the high-tech Al Rihla for Qatar in 2022. Yet, an enduring paradox plagued the nation: while Pakistani craftsmanship produced the exact spheres kicked by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Pakistan's national team lingered near the bottom of FIFA's global rankings.
This initiative bridges that historic divide. Rather than limiting Pakistan's role to industrial supply chains, Forward Sports is deploying its commercial infrastructure to fund full-scale athletic development. The new academy will combine European sports science with local talent discovery, establishing dedicated training facilities equipped with modern turf, data tracking technologies, and elite conditioning centers.
Portugal’s football architecture is widely regarded as the gold standard for player development and scouting efficiency. Portuguese academies regularly produce elite international talent, relying on rigorous tactical education, early-age biomechanical assessments, and structured competitive exposure. By embedding Portuguese UEFA-certified coaches directly into Pakistan, the new venture bypasses local administrative inertia to deliver European-grade instruction.
The training curriculum will target under-12 to under-19 age brackets, focusing on spatial awareness, high-intensity pressing, and technical precision under pressure. Local coaches will also undergo rigorous certification under European instructors, creating a sustainable ecosystem that extends far beyond a single facility.
Pakistani football has suffered for years from governance disputes, international suspensions, and neglected municipal infrastructure. The private-sector intervention by Forward Sports offers a self-sustaining alternative. By funding talent scouting directly across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Lyari—Karachi’s historic football hotbed—the academy creates an uncorrupted pathway for gifted players regardless of financial background.
With direct pipelines to European talent scouts, young Pakistani players will no longer depend solely on poorly funded national trials. The venture signals a fundamental shift toward corporate sponsorship as the primary engine for athletic development in South Asia.
Forward Sports, the Sialkot-based manufacturer famous for producing official FIFA World Cup match balls, is sponsoring and facilitating the initiative. The company is using its private infrastructure to fund youth talent identification and European coaching programs.
The academy will focus on youth development for players aged between under-12 and under-19. It will provide modern European-style tactical, technical, and biomechanical training led by UEFA-certified coaches.
Talent scouting will span key football hubs across Pakistan, including Karachi's Lyari district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. Selected prospects will receive fully funded training and potential exposure to European sports scouts.
