فرضِ روزہ — Pillars of Fasting
Intention (Niyyah)

Must be made before Fajr each day.
Abstinence

Illness & recovery

Travel (safar)

Must be > ~80 km. Make up later.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
حمل اور شیر خوارگی
Fidya if afraid for child. Make up later.
Menstruation / postpartum
حیض / نفاس
Make up days after purification.
Elderly / chronic illness
بزرگ / دائمی بیماری
Fidya for each day missed.
Temporary illness
عارضی بیماری
Fidya + make up when able.
فدیہ اور کفارہ — Fidya & Kaffarah
Fidya (فدیہ)
Feeding one poor person for each day missed. Required when you cannot make up the fast (elderly, chronically ill).
Kaffarah (کفارہ)
Feeding 60 poor people OR fasting 60 consecutive days. Required when you deliberately break a valid fast.

Monday & Thursday

The Prophet ﷺ fasted Mondays and Thursdays.
Six days of Shawwal
شوال کے چھ دن
Fasting 6 days after Eid earns the reward of year-round fasting.
Day of Ashura
عاشوراء کا دن
10th Muharram — recommended to fast the 9th or 11th too.
Day of Arafah
عرفہ کا دن
9th Dhul Hijjah — expiates sins of previous and coming year.
Alternate days (David's fast)
روزہ داؤد
Fasting every other day — the best form of fasting.
Three White Days

13th, 14th, 15th of each Islamic month — sunnah fasts.
Day of Arafah (non-Hajj)

Expiates two years of sins — one past, one coming.
Shaban (middle)
شعبان کا روزہ
The Prophet ﷺ fasted most of Shaban.

Eat dates and drink water
چھوہارے اور پانی پئیں
The Prophet ﷺ broke fast with dates and water. Dates provide instant energy.
Eat oatmeal or whole grains
دلیا یا سمج پڑیں
Slow-release carbohydrates keep you full longer.
Include protein (eggs, yogurt)

Protein slows digestion and prevents hunger pangs.
Avoid salty and fried foods

Salt increases thirst. Fried foods cause bloating.
Drink plenty of water

Drink 2-3 glasses of water between Iftar and Sehri.
Sleep early

Dua for Sehri
سحری کی دعا
نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُصُومَ غَدًا مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ الْمُبَارَكِ فَرْضًا لَكَ يَا اللهُ
I intend to fast tomorrow from the blessed month of Ramadan, obligatory for You, O Allah.
Dua for Breaking Fast (Iftar)
افطار کی دعا
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَ عَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ
O Allah, for You I fasted and with Your provision I break my fast.
Dua for Acceptance
قبولیت کی دعا
اللَّهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
O Allah, accept from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
O Allah, You are Pardoning and love to pardon, so pardon me.
