Muttiah Muralitharan

Muttiah Muralitharan, born on April 17, 1972, in Kandy, Sri Lanka, is the highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket and One Day International cricket. He took 800 Test wickets and 534 ODI wickets in a career spanning from 1992 to 2011. Born into a Tamil family, Muralitharan revolutionized spin bowling with his unique doosra delivery. He played 133 Tests and 350 ODIs for Sri Lanka. His bowling action was the subject of controversy and biomechanical studies, but he was eventually cleared by the ICC. Muralitharan was a key member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 1996 Cricket World Cup. After retirement, he has been involved in cricket coaching and philanthropy, and is also a successful businessman in Sri Lanka. He was awarded the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award and remains the most iconic Sri Lankan cricketer alongside Kumar Sangakkara.
